The 2022 SCOPE Team
My name is Anne Mol and I am a master student in marine biology at the University of Amsterdam. After a bachelor thesis in Tromsø, I wanted to go further north for my master thesis. I am a guest master student at UNIS and my thesis is on parasites in copepods in the Barents Sea. My interests are in marine microbiology in which my previous projects were about microbial communities in pingo's on Svalbard and the characterization of virus diversity in the Canadian Arctic.
I was asked if I wanted to organize SCOPE for the second year. For me this sounded like an awesome conference and a nice opportunity to organize a conference for students by students. I hope to make SCOPE even better then last year together with the rest of the team. SCOPE is a low pressure environment and will show students how a conference works. Were students get the chance to practice the skills of presenting their own work and learn from each other. Hope to see you there! |
Tereza is a master’s student at Masaryk University in Czechia. She has been living in Svalbard since 2020 as an exchange bachelor’s and master‘s student. She is currently writing her thesis at the Department of Arctic Geology at UNIS. Her main research interest is sedimentology and tectonostratigraphy. She has participated in and led many field expeditions over the past years including several field campaigns for her master thesis project. She is an iEarth student representative since 2021. Besides her studies, she enjoys traveling and outdoor’s activities, such as climbing, skiing, and sea kayaking.
She decided to organize SCOPE 2022 to provide an opportunity for the students in polar science to present their projects in a non-graded environment. The conference is meant to be a major collaborative event for all students interested in different scientific disciplines. Moreover, inspirative presentations from invited key-note speakers will motivate them to continue with a further scientific carrier and broaden their horizons in the academic world. Additionally, a workshop will aim to bring together early career and more experienced researchers to establish cooperation and gain new contacts. Finally, the conference will be completed with an informal dinner and networking evening. |
